Within School Program

The Awesome Escape Rooms 4 Kids program is a fun and creative way for students to improve their core competency skills through experiential learning. This year we are focusing on Problem Solving.

Program

Students design an escape room that reflects their interests. Working in teams, they utilize their art skills to make props (virtual during COVID 19). They use their creative and critical thinking skills to make puzzles for their escape room. On the last day teams try to escape each other's rooms within time. If more than one class takes place in the program, students escape the other classes room.

Evaluation

Students begin the five week 1.5 hour per day (7.5 hour) program completing a core competency worksheet and a discussion of the core competency and design skills they will use throughout the program. At the end of each class, students review the core competencies skills they used during the class and how it helped or did not help them build their escape room. At the end of the program they complete a reflection worksheet and provide an example of when they used each skill including planning, problem solving,  decision making, teamwork, positive communication, critical and creative thinking, positive personal and cultural identity, personal awareness and responsibility, and social responsibility.

Experiential Learning

In this program, students learn through play, action and reflection. The escape room program provides students with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of core competency skills and how they apply the skills. It also provides students with fun, concrete memories of when they used core competency skills to achieve a collaborative, creative goal.
